The National Vice Chairman (Northwest) of the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC), Dr. Salihu Lukman, has resigned from the party’s highest administrative office with immediate effect.
His letter of resignation addressed to the Acting National Chairman, Senator Abubakar Kyari, was dated July 26, 2023.
Salihu Lukman becomes the third NWC to have resigned from the committee in the last week.
The National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore tendered their resignation last Monday.
PoliticsNow can confirm that Salihu Lukman’s resignation is to pave way for the confirmation of Abdullahi Ganduje as National Chairman of the ruling party. Both Lukman and Ganduje are from the North West, a situation that could upset the zoning balancing of the party if Lukman remains in office.
Recall that Abdullahi Adamu who resigned last week as National Chairman of the APC is from the North Central. There are strong indications that he would be replaced by Ganduje, who is from the North West. If Lukman remains as the Vice Chairman of the party, the North Central will lose representation in the NWC, hence the reason he was asked to quit.
It also emerged that Lukman may be compensated with a political appointment in the coming days to compensate for his exit in the APC’s NWC.
