The Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, on Saturday said the viral video showing Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in the hospital was released in good faith without any intention of hurting the governor or his family.
Ogunmolasuyi on Friday released a 30 seconds video where he was seen wishing Governor Akeredolu happy birthday while celebrating the latter’s 67th birthday.
The lawmaker’s action was greeted with criticism in some quarters in the state.
A legal practitioner, Mr Kayode Ajulo, in a statement condemned the release of the video, saying it was a violation of the privacy of the governor as it portrayed him in a vulnerable state.
But Ogunmolasuyi, who reacted to the Ajulo’s statement, reiterated that he had no bad intention for posting the video to the internet.
He said, “I meant no harm with the video. It was sent out because some people were saying that the governor was on life-support machine. As of yesterday (Friday), he (Akeredolu) served everyone around him with food and cake without any assistance and he danced to Yinka Ayefele’s music for more than one hour, 30 minutes and he was on his feet for over two hours without any support.
“Some are saying that he can’t sign or attend to issues. I never meant any evil. All I wanted was to let the whole world know that Oga is alive and is getting better every day.”
But Ajulo, in his statement, said sharing a video of the governor in a sick condition is highly insensitive on the part of those who posted and shared the video.
The statement read, “Sharing such a video of the governor in a weakened condition is highly insensitive and uncalled for. Irrespective of the rumour making the rounds, his privacy and integrity must be respected especially during this time of health struggles.”
Governor Akeredolu has been ill and currently recuperating at a hospital.
