Former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani, has warned Nigerians waiting to collect the N8,000 subsidy removal palliatives from the Bola Tinubu led government to pray before collecting the cash relief.
Issuing this warning in a tweet at the early hours of Friday, Mr Sani said that Nigerians that benefited from the cash palliative programme of the immediate past president ended up in poverty.
Urging Nigerians to pray before collecting the palliative, Mr Sani wrote: “People who collected Buhari’s ‘jazzed’ 10k ended up in deeper poverty. Pray before you collect the next 8k.”
His remarks followed Mr. Tinubu government’s announcement that it would distribute N8,000 in palliative to 12 million vulnerable Nigerian families to lessen the impact of the elimination of fuel subsidies. To execute the palliative scheme, Mr. Tinubu requested approval of a N500 billion loan.
Many Nigerians, however, have criticised the amount allocated to be given to vulnerable households, claiming that the N8,000 palliatives was significantly less than the nation’s minimum wage and might almost be impossible to cushion the effect of the increased price of gasoline.
