President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the Super Falcons for a brilliant performance against the Lionesses of England.
The Falcons crashed out of the FIFA women’s world cup after losing 4-2 in penalty shootout to the Lionesses.
Despite the loss, Tinubu praised the efforts of the Falcons, saying they made Nigeria proud.
The President said in a tweet: ” I must commend the effort by our Super Falcons @NGSuper_Falcons at the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Your brilliant performance did not go unnoticed despite the final outcome. You made Nigeria proud on the global stage!”
The Super Falcons, after holding the lioness of England to a goalless draw at 90 minutes and extra time, failed to find the back of the net on two occasions. England however found the back of the net on four occasions, advancing to the next round of the tournament.
Nigeria becomes the second of the three African nations to crash out of the prestigious female football tournament.
Recall that South Africa on Sunday crashed out of the tournament after a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Netherlands.
However, Morocco will take on France on Wednesday to keep the continent hopes of winning it’s first world cup trophy alive.
