The ministerial screening of the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, turned into a praise singing session in the Senate.
Wike, who entered into the Senate Chamber at about 2 pm, was given time to reel out his Curriculum Vitae, which he did.
He notified the Senators that he studied political science in his first degree at the University of Port Harcourt, and proceeded for his National Youth Service in the then Gongola State, which is now Taraba State.
He said after returning from his Youth Service, he did another degree in Law at the Rivers State University, before moving fully into politics.
He said he rose from being local government chairman in 1999 to Chief of Staff in 2007, to minister of education in 2010 and two term governor between 2015 and 2023.
He said as governor, he built 12 flyovers within four years owing to his commitment to serve.
When it was time for questions, the Senate President took the first turn by eulogizing Wike without asking him any questions.
The deputy Senate president, Barau Jibril, followed suit by asking a question that sounds more like an endorsement.
He said: “I have been to Rivers and I’ve seen the good works you’ve done. Will you replicate the same at the federal level if you’re confirmed as a minister?”
Without allowing Wike to answer the question since it is not really a question, the Senate President then asked a senator from Rivers State to ask a question.
The senator simply requested that Wike should be asked to take a bow and go.
His wish was granted, and Wike took a bow and left.
