Wike tells Abuja land owners to develop their lands within three months or risk revocation

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced that 189 landowners who have failed to develop their landed properties have been granted a three-month grace to do so or risk having their allocation papers revoked.

The Minister disclosed that the failure of these landowners to begin developing their bare lands within the grace period will lead to the revocation of their allocation papers.

The FCTA’s Director of Information and Communication, Mr. Muhammad Sule, reportedly explained the FCT Minister’s directive on Sunday in Abuja, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

Mr Sule claims that despite the affected 109 title holders receiving approval for their individual building designs, they have not built any structures on their properties as they ought to have.

According to the FCTA director, Wike’s threat to revoke title documents from landowners who don’t use this three-month grace period to develop their properties is in compliance with current rules.

The three-month grace period, according to Mr Sule, only extended to people and corporate entities who had received building plan approvals to develop their properties.

Additionally, he stated that public institutions in the FCT holding land titles that have not yet developed them are recommended to comply in order to avoid punishment.

“The minister has extended this gesture to 189 property owners due to their desire to develop the properties by obtaining building plan approvals, a prerequisite for the development of any property in the FCT,” the director said.

“Owners of the plots were exempted from revocation because they had already demonstrated a firm commitment to developing their property by obtaining necessary documents from the FCT Administration.

“The minister is urging the affected property owners to take advantage of the gesture and develop their plots in line with the terms of their offer of Right-of-Occupancy.”
