The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has explained why it has not taken disciplinary action against the former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, who is now a Minister-Designate.
An official of the party who pleaded not to be named, said the PDP is waiting for Wike’s swearing-in as Minister before wielding the big stick on him.
The official made the comment the same day Wike met the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
The meeting between the two politicians is coming a week after Wike also paid a visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu shortly after his confirmation as Minister.
Once sworn-in as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Wike would become the most senior official of Tinubu’s government from Rivers State.
The hobnobbing of Wike with the APC is also coming days after the PDP held meetings twice in a week in what analysts say is a move to reposition the party.
Wike, who worked against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2023 election, has consistently denied plans to join the APC. But whether the PDP would be comfortable to have a senior cabinet member of the ruling party as one of its leaders remained to be seen.
