Why is Emefiele in Kuje prison, Buhari in Daura?   Activist fires at Nigeria’s justice system

A social crusader, Aisha Yesufu, has fired at Nigeria’s justice system, wondering how a former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, is cooling his heels in Kuje Prison but his boss, former President Muhammadu Buhari is enjoying his retirement in his homestead of Daura, Katsina State.

Emefiele was governor of the CBN for nine years, eight of which were in the two terms of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure.

The government of President Bola Tinubu which succeeded the Buhari’s government, has been tightening the noose on the former CBN governor, with the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), taking turns to prosecute him.

Last Thursday, a Federal Capital Territory High Court remanded Emefiele in Kuje prison over alleged procurement fraud. The Federal Government had initially preferred 20 charges on procurement fraud to the tune of N6.5bn against the former CBN governor. But the FG reduced the charges to six to the tune of over N1bn before he was arraigned.

In a video posted on Youtube, Aisha Yesufu wondered how Emefiele is in Kuje Prison while his boss, Buhari who had supervisory responsibility over the CBN is in Daura without facing any of those charges.

Aisha Yesufu said it was a cowardly act on the part of the Tinubu’s government to clampdown on Emefiele without extending same to Buhari who oversaw the activities of Emefiele while he served as CBN Governor.
