‘Where are the cabals,’ Shehu Sani cries aloud as Emefiele remains in jail over failure to meet N300m bail

Twenty days after a federal capital territory high court granted bail to Godwin Emefiele, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in the sum of N300 million, he still remains in prison over failure to perfect his bail.

The lengthy time it is taking for Emefiele’s friends to come forward and secure his release from jail, prompted a political activist, Comrade Shehu Sani to ask where are the ‘cabals,’ in reference to kitchen cabinet members of the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government who were said to be his main backers.

Part of Emefiele’s bail includes two sureties who must have certificates of occupancy and titles of properties within the Maitama district in Abuja.

Sani said the situation Emefiele has found himself is a lesson in life for everyone not to  count their friends until when they need them.

He said: “When he was the head of the Apex Bank, he was surrounded and sought after by people he thought were friends. His freedom is now stalled because no one wants to provide the ‘small’ amount of money or stake his C of O for a bail bond.

“Where are the Businessmen, where are the Senators, where are the Cabals, where are the top politicians, where are the Anchor farmers, where are the Suit wearing Banking CEOs,Where are all those who gave him awards upon awards,Where are the beneficiaries and all those he helped or enriched? This is a lesson in life for everyone.Don’t count your friends until when you need them.”
