‘We’re being haunted for supporting Tinubu’- APC group
A pro-democracy organization, known as the New Generation Leaders of Bayelsa State, has issued a plea to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police, and other security agencies, urging their intervention in response to the alleged series of assaults on All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and supporters within the state.
In a statement released by the National Coordinator, Apostle Bodmas Kemepadei, the group strongly condemned the recent attempted attack on Timipre Sylva, the APC gubernatorial candidate, in the Local Government Area by individuals believed to be thugs dressed in military attire.
Kemepadei characterized the attacks carried out by the ruling party in the State as a senseless and heartless tactic. He pointed out that rather than seeking voter support through peaceful means, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had resorted to assaulting and mistreating law-abiding APC supporters.
The group went on to issue a warning, stating that they would retaliate against the ruling party if President Tinubu did not take action by instructing security agencies to address the ongoing attacks.
The statement conveyed the group’s stance: “As supporters of the APC in Bayelsa State, we wholeheartedly denounce the reports of sponsored political thugs clad in full military uniform attempting to invade Sylva’s LGA a few days ago.”
“There have also been instances of harassment, intimidation, and violence against dedicated members of the APC, which may compel some of us to defend ourselves if Mr. President fails to intervene. Such actions are highly condemnable and a severe threat to democracy. We are now being hunted like prey for standing with President Tinubu.”
“We, therefore, implore the President, IGP, and other security agencies to take swift action and bring the perpetrators of these sinister acts to justice before the situation escalates. As a group, we are closely monitoring the attacks on APC members, and we recognize the connection to the growing popularity and overwhelming support of the APC in the State. The President should step in by instructing security agencies to remain vigilant in response to the continued assaults on our party members.”
