Kano State government has said it would petition the judge who described its supporters as bandits and gang of red cap wearers.
PoliticsNow had reported that one of the judges of the panel that sacked the state governor, Justice Benson Anya, made derogatory comments against members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Kwankwasiyya political movement who are known for their signature red cap.
The judge had said: “I use this opportunity to condemn the gang of Red Cap wearers who, like a violent and terrorist cult, chased us out of Kano and put us in fear of our lives. We believe that only Allah is the giver of power. Those who believe in Allah must bow to his will and submit to the authority of Governmental power.
“Resort to anarchy, violence and killing can never be a source of lawful power. Threatening to put Honourable Judges in the danger of their life as done in Kano by some disgruntled bandits parading as politicians is hereby condemned.”
The Kano State government has condemned the comment, saying they are not only insulting to NNPP members and supporters but also to the late Malam Aminu Kano, who was the champion of wearing a red cap in Kano.
The state government has also questioned whether Justice Anya was right to use personal sentiments in his judgment and has said that it will file a petition against him with the National Judicial Council (NJC).
Dantiye said the judge could not just come “to Kano and abuse Malam Aminu Kano. We will make sure that he pays for what he has done. We will explore all options for the unnecessary abuse.
“A judge cannot just sit down because of unfounded death threats to be impartial in our judgement. This clearly showed to us that you are not being fair and just in this election verdict,” he said.
