President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had last year claimed that he received a replacement of his missing Diploma from Chicago State University (CSU). This is in contrast to the deposition of CSU Registrar, Caleb Westberg, who denied the said replacement diploma Tinubu submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
The event where Tinubu boasted of receiving a replacement diploma from CSU was when he addressed the UK Foreign Policy think-tank, Chatham house on December 5, 2022.
In the video, Tinubu could be heard denying speculations about his academic qualifications where he expressly stated that he has collected his replacement certificate from Chicago State University.
Meanwhile, the University Registrar and deponent/witness of Chicago State University, Caleb Westberg faulted Tinubu’s claim saying the US-based university did not issue the certificate Tinubu presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prior to the 2023 general election.
There have been claims that Westberg said the replacement may have been provided by a third-party vendor. But in the deposition, there is no place the Registrar made that claim.
Tinubu’s major political opponent, Atiku Abubakar, has approached the Supreme Court in the hope that the apex court will disqualify the Nigerian president on ground that he presented a forged certificate to INEC in aid of his election.
Tinubu in Chatham House stated clearly that he received an original replacement certificate directly from CSU, why are his supporters lying that a "3rd party" produced the certificate? pic.twitter.com/5vASfDz0Lx
