Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured Rivers people that he would not throw them under the bus in his fight against political opponents who seek to dethrone him.
In a New Year eve church service to usher in 2024 in Port Harcourt, Fubara told an excited congregants that his political traducers have failed to take away the red pen (symbolic ink of authority used in signing state documents) from him.
He said: “I want to urge all of us here not to be frightened. What they want (showing off a pen) is this red biro. It is still with me. They have failed.”
The congregation erupted in loud cheers.
Fubara continued: “ You are the winner. We are the winner because we are still signing with the red biro. And so long as we are signing with the red biro, development will continue in Rivers State.”
Fubara’s remark came minutes after Edison Ehie resigned as an Assembly member and also the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Until his resignation, Ehie led the faction of the Rivers State Assembly loyal to Fubara.
There are indications that Ehie resigned his position to take up the role of Chief of Staff to Governor Fubara.
