The ousted President of Gabon who just won a third-term re-election last Saturday amid internet shut down and media clampdown, has begged the international community to make a lot of noise against the coupists that removed him.
The military in Gabon, in the early hours of Wednesday, announced seizing power in a television broadcast.
Taking the stage on Gabon 24, the officers conveyed that they were acting on behalf of all security and defence forces within the Central African nation.
Their message encompassed the nullification of the election results, the immediate closure of borders until further notice, and the dissolution of state institutions.
Bongo and his father ruled Gabon for a cumulative 54 years and was aiming to prolong it until the military intervened.
In a video shared on multiple social media platforms, Bongo said: “I’m Ali Bongo Odimba, President of Gabon. I want to send a message to the friends that we have all over the world. The people here have arrested me. My son is somewhere. My wife is in another place. Right now, I’m at the residence and nothing is happening. I don’t know what’s going on. So, I’m calling you to make noise. To make noise and to make noise.”
