The social media is replete with videos of gunmen enforcing a one-week sit-at-home in the South East with gunshots

Recall that a faction of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) headed by Simon Ekpa, announced a one-week sit-at-home which commenced on Monday, July 3. Since then, militant members of the designated terrorist organization have been enforcing the sit-at-home in a violent manner.

In Enugu, there are reports that gunmen shot sporadically in order to enforce the sit-at-home at the New Market axis of the State, Artisan, Emene, New Haven, Abakpa, Agbani Road and NOWAS.

The gunmen were seen in one video, destroying the wares of traders after chasing them away.

In another video, gunshots were fired at close range at a motorcycle operator. It is not clear what happens to the motorcycle operator after the video went off.

Even children were not spared as one video showed Biafran activists forcing kids and their mothers to lie on the floor because they violated the sit-at-home order handed down by Simon Ekpa from faraway Finland.

The gunmen, who covered their faces, were also seen in another video in multiple Siena Vehicles patrolling parts of the South East.

Many parents, who earlier took their children to school, became distraught at reports that the gunmen were running riots in most parts of the South East region. While some rushed to pick up their kids, others were making frantic calls to the school management to ensure their children’s safety.

As of the time of filing this report, a combined team of the Army and the Police are said to be on the chase of the gunmen.

A helicopter was also seen hovering around major parts of the region to suppress the violent takeover by the group.

All the banks, other businesses and schools that earlier opened for the day’s activities have abruptly shut down.

The sit-at-home is said to end next Monday.
