The removal from office of the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Bichi, sparked jubilation on Monday among personnel.
On Monday, President Bola Tinubu removed Bichi as the director general of the DSS, although it came in the form of his voluntary resignation. Mr Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi believed to be refined and professional, was named the replacement for Bichi who held sway since 2018.
Moments after the news of his removal, a video showing jubilation among DSS personnel became viral.
In one particular video, dozens of workers were seen screaming in excitement over the news of the sack of Bichi and the appointment of Ajayi.
Some of the jubilant agents danced and hugged one another. One woman said ‘Thank you, Jesus,’ in what appeared to be a relief from putting up with Bichi.
Nigerians who reacted to the video said it was a testament to how badly Bichi ran the DSS.
Former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Professor Chidi Odinkalu said via his X handle @ChidiOdinkalu, “How is a country supposed to expect security from a collection of people denied access to dignity, professionalism or courage….?”
@emmaikumeh said: “My guys in DSS are seriously celebrating the removal of Bichi. 😆 😆 Bichi abused the DSS, and his son and wife abused the DSS staff. Nepotism was the order of the day. This man destroyed every aspect of professionalism. Thank God he’s gone. Tonight we celebrate 🔥🔥🙌🙌.”
@Necessary_Cho said: “Man completely undermined the professionalism within the DSS. We never had to know the wives of previous DGs like Kayode Are, Gadzama, Ekpeyong, or Daura. But Bichi, unfortunately, stands out as the most regrettable DG/DSS in history.”
@TheoAbuAgada said: “DSS Personnel celebrating the removal of DSS DG, Bichi. The new DG must do everything possible to make this organization work for the good of Nigeria.”
@FS_Yusuf_ said: “Mehn. See how DSS officers are celebrating the resignation of Bichi. Man was a total disaster.”
@Barack_govt said: “Honestly how I do explain to my kids that the head of the DSS was sacked and the entire officers and men are in jubilation…..?
