Ayo Adebanjo, leader of Pan Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has said that he will not recognize the winner of the 2023 presidential election, Bola Tinubu, until the election tribunal gives its final verdict on the legitimacy of his victory.
During an interview with Arise TV on Monday, Pa Adebanjo, a vocal supporter of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, said that the manner in which Mr Tinubu emerged as the country’s president is not right.
“The way he got there is not right. It is questionable, and it is condemned by all responsible people in the whole world,” he said on Monday while appearing on Arise TV.
Mr Adebanjo stated that he would not recognise Mr Tinubu as president, despite recent steps that many commentators have lauded as necessary to get the country back on track.
He went on to say that he and his supporters are currently contesting the results of the election that elected Mr Tinubu as president.
His comment comes barely a day after the EU election observer mission faulted the conduct of the country’s election umpire at the just concluded presidential election.
