Following the demolition of structures deemed illegal by the Kano State Government, scavengers quickly took advantage of the situation to salvage useful materials. Tragically, one fatality occurred at the demolished Daula Hotel site, and another individual lost their life at the Eid Ground demolition site.
According to Channels news, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Husaini Gumel, personally visited the scene at Daula Hotel and reported that 106 individuals suspected of scavenging around the demolished structures have been apprehended. He assured the public that the security presence in the demolished areas would be maintained to prevent unauthorised access and further incidents.
Responding to the situation, Ibrahim Yakubu, the Managing Director of Kano State Urban Planning Development Agency, stated that the State Government had instructed the Police Commissioner to take control of the sites and arrest any trespassers. This measure aims to ensure the security and integrity of the demolished locations.
