U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has asked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to make Canada the 51st state in America.
According to FOX News, Mr Trump had also suggested making Mr Trudeau the governor if he agreed to the plan.
Mr Trump, who was re-elected last month, made the statement when he jokingly suggested that Mr Trudeau do more to curtail illegal immigration and drug trafficking across the U.S. northern border.
Mr Trump stated this by threatening to impose a 25 per cent tariff on Canada’s exports, with Mr Trudeau saying that would destroy Canada’s economy.
Mr Trump jokingly admitted that ‘prime minister’ was a better title for Mr Trudeau than ‘governor’, sources told FOX News.
He reiterated his demand at a Friday dinner with Mr Trudeau, noting that he expects changes from Canada by January 20, 2025, when he would be sworn into office.
