American side Bay FC have pulled off a major transfer coup by securing the services of Nigerian international Asisat Oshoala. The 29-year-old forward joins from Spanish giants Barcelona Femení on a contract through 2026 with an option for 2027.
Oshoala is a proven goalscorer at the highest level, having represented Nigeria at three FIFA Women’s World Cups and winning a host of honours during her time in Europe. She departed Barcelona as a four-time league champion and two-time UEFA Women’s Champions League winner.
Bay FC GM Lucy Rushton expressed her delight at capturing Oshoala’s signature, stating: “To have the opportunity to add a player of Asisat’s quality, experience and winning pedigree is an exciting day for the club and the league.”
For Oshoala, the move presents a new challenge after conquering Europe. She is relishing playing in the Californian derbies after noting her fondness for rivalry matches. With Oshoala leading the line, expansion outfit Bay FC will be hoping to hit the ground running in their maiden NWSL season.
The side’s pre-season preparations continue later this month with matches against several NWSL rivals in the 2024 Coachella Valley Invitational. Bay FC open their inaugural campaign away to Angel City on March 16.
