Tottenham Hotspur is currently in advanced negotiations with RB Leipzig for a potential loan deal involving German striker Timo Werner. Manager Ange Postecoglou is eager to make early moves in the transfer market to advance his team-building project.
While central defense remains the priority, with Genoa’s Radu Dragusin being the top target, Postecoglou is also considering reinforcements for the front three. Werner, aged 27, has been identified as a suitable player due to his pace, intensity, and ability to meet the pressing demands integral to Tottenham’s tactical strategy.
With Son Heung-min unavailable due to the Asian Cup for at least a month and Alejo Véliz dealing with a knee injury, Spurs are exploring options to strengthen their attacking options. Werner, formerly with Chelsea and previously linked with Manchester United, has scored two goals in eight Bundesliga appearances this season and is under contract with Leipzig until 2026.
RB Leipzig’s manager, Marco Rose, confirmed ongoing discussions, stating, “It’s right that Timo wants to go on loan. Timo would like to go to the European Championship. We wish him all the best and are keeping our fingers crossed for him.”
Werner, who Chelsea signed for £47.5m in 2020, returned to the Bundesliga after two years, having scored 10 goals in 56 Premier League games. Meanwhile, Tottenham’s Eric Dier is reportedly close to securing a move to Bayern Munich, with personal terms already agreed upon.
