BAFTA-winning actor, Micheal Ward, known for his roles in Top Boy, Small Axe, and Blue Story, has been formally charged with multiple sexual offences by the Metropolitan Police.
The 27-year-old actor from Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, has been charged with two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration and one count of sexual assault.
The alleged offences involve one woman and reportedly occurred in January 2023. Ward is scheduled to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 28 August.
In a statement, Ward denied all charges: “I have cooperated fully with police throughout their investigation and have complete faith that the legal process will clear my name.”
Detective Superintendent Scott Ware, leading the investigation, emphasized: “Our specialist officers continue to support the woman who came forward. We understand how difficult such investigations can be for those involved.”
Catherine Baccas, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London South, issued a public reminder: “We remind all concerned that proceedings against the suspect are active and he has a right to a fair trial. It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
Ward rose to fame playing Jamie in Netflix’s Top Boy and won the 2020 BAFTA Rising Star award. He also appeared in films like Blue Story, The Old Guard and Empire of Light.
