Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu has asked Nigerians to hold president Bola Amhed Tinubu accountable for the execution of promises and plans that he made during his nationwide address with regards ending the current economic hardship being faced by Nigerians.
Recall that Mr TInubu had during his nationwide address promised to take drastic measures to cushion the effect of subsidy removal. The president who said he wasn’t ignorant of the plights of Nigerians appealed to citizens to endure the pain as it was the only route to economic recovery.
However, commending president Tinubu in a tweet after the presidential address, Mr Moghalu who commended the president’s plans to tackle the current economic hardship being faced by Nigerians wrote: “President @officialABAT’s speech tonight was very clear about a plan to tackle the inevitable impact of the subsidy removals on the cost of living of the suffering Nigerian masses, and showed empathy too. His government should now be held accountable for execution.”
Recall that President Tinubu’s decision to end the fuel subsidy regime had a negative impact on the economic situation of the majority of Nigerians, with many finding it difficult to pay for even the most basic necessities as prices for goods continue to rise in response to the rising cost of fuel at the pump and the depreciating value of the national currency.
But Mr. Tinubu’s administration has pledged to take palliative actions to lessen the impact of the removal.
