Former Presidential spokesperson, Reno Omokri, has urged President Bola Tinubu to fulfill his pledge of ensuring judicial independence as he claimed because Atiku Abubakar won the February presidential election.
Omokri in a tweet on Thursday explained that despite being sure that Atiku won the 2023 presidential election, he has chosen to allow the country’s judiciary to do its job.
“Every obstacle to judicial independence should be avoided. I believe that Waziri Atiku Abubakar won the #NigerianElections2023. However, I have deliberately kept quiet to allow the judiciary to do its work,” Omokri wrote.
Calling on Mr Tinubu to ensure judicial independence as the election tribunal gears towards conclusion of its proceedings, the former presidential spokesman further expressed worries over rumours of alleged attempt by the president to manipulate the outcome of the presidential election tribunal.
“And we hope the Tinubu government will fulfill its pledge to ensure judicial independence because what we hear from the PEPC is disturbing. But we still leave room for the benefit of the doubt,” Omokri wrote.
Recall that Mr Tinubu was earlier accused by the opposition of having a telephone conversation with the Chief Justice of Nigeria Olukayode Ariwoola in respect to the presidential election tribunal proceeding based on reports by a Nigerian journalist, Jackson Udeh.
Responding to the allegations, both the Supreme Court and ruling party debunked the claims promising to ensure that the judiciary is allowed to operate independently
