Tinubu presents ₦1.481tr Rivers budget to NASS for approval

President Bola Tinubu has presented a budget of N1.481 trillion for Rivers State, signaling that the state of emergency he imposed on Rivers State may not be lifted any time soon.

On Thursday, rather than show signs of a retreat, Tinubu dug in by writing the National Assembly for the consideration and passage of the 2025 budget of the Rivers State Government.

Many analysts and constitutional lawyers have described the emergency rule particularly the suspension of all democratic institutions and appointment of a sole administrator as illegal.

Nevertheless, the President, on Thursday, said the N1.481 trillion is being presented to the National Assembly in view of the nullification of the 2025 budget of the State by the Supreme Court and the fact that the state is under emergency rule.

With the emergency rule, the Rivers Assembly is not in session and in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 constitution as amended, the National Assembly is expected to take over the legislative functions of the State Assembly.

Tinubu said that ₦324 billion of the amount will be expended on infrastructure, ₦166 billion for health, ₦75.6 billion for education and ₦31.4 for agriculture.

He said by the provisions of the budget, agriculture is expected to generate about 6000 jobs and appealed to the lawmakers to urgently pass the budget for the good of the State
