President Bola Tinubu has nominated Abbas Balarabe to replace former Governor Nasir El-Rufai for the ministerial role.
This announcement marks a pivotal moment in Kaduna’s political landscape as Mr. Balarabe is expected to undergo Senate scrutiny in the coming days before he assumes his ministerial duties, assigned by President Tinubu.
Abbas Balarabe’s nomination follows his notable tenure as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Kaduna State. His appointment as SSG was initially made under the leadership of Governor Nasir El-Rufai and retained by his successor, Governor Uba Sani. his continuity in Balarabe’s role underscores the acknowledgment of his competence and dedication to public service.
It is worth recalling that the Senate had previously withheld the confirmation of Nasir El-Rufai as a ministerial nominee, citing security concerns raised during the screening process. This led to a substantial delay in his appointment, ultimately culminating in President Tinubu’s decision to nominate Abbas Balarabe as a replacement.
The selection of Balarabe signals President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring effective representation for Kaduna State after Mr El-Rufai turned down the president’s ministerial offer following his ordeal at the hands of the Senate.
With his extensive experience in government affairs, having served as the SSG and worked closely with two successive governors, Balarabe brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the federal government.
President Tinubu also summited the names of Dr Jamila Bio and Ayodele Olawande for confirmation.
