President Bola Tinubu received the G-5 members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the Presidential villa in Abuja on Thursday June 8.
The group popularly called G5 Governors were led by former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike. Others in the entourage included Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyoi Ugwanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Seyi Makinde(Oyo). The current governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah was also present.
The G5 Governors, a group that emerged as a breakaway group from the Party after the presidential primaries of the Party, saying their grievances were not addressed by the Party.
Speaking with State House correspondents after the meeting, Peter Mbah, the Enugu state Governor said he met with Tinubu to appeal for the release of detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Mbah said his appeal was based on the promise by the President to engender national healing and serve with compassion in his inaugural speech.
He expressed the hope that the President would give a favourable response to the request for the self-acclaimed leader of IPOB leader, to regain his freedom.
On his part, Governor Makinde, who was flanked by the four other members of the group who are now immediate past Governors, said the G5 will keep meeting with the President on the way forward for the country.
He acknowledged that nation building is a difficult task that demanded constant evaluation.
