Highlighting the transformative nature of these mandates, Sulaiman-Ibrahim emphasized that they go beyond routine tasks and have the potential to significantly improve internal security in Nigeria.
According to the statement, the key mandates of the Ministry include developing and implementing a harmonized police reform report, amending the Police Act, executing the President’s directive on VIP security duties withdrawal, and formulating a community policing strategy.
The Minister made these remarks at the 2-Day Retreat for the Directorate cadre, held under the theme “Re: Envisioning the Ministry of Police Affairs for Effective Internal Security: Strengthening Administration and Management Functions for Resilience and Efficiency” at the Wetland Hotel in Abuja.
Underlining the importance of the mandates, Sulaiman-Ibrahim acknowledged the critical juncture at which the Nigeria Police Force currently finds itself. She pointed out that the force is grappling with the consequences of decades of neglect, hindering its ability to fulfill its constitutional mandate.
The Minister expressed optimism that the two-day management retreat would instill a collective commitment among participants to align their efforts with the ministerial mandate. She believes that this alignment will contribute to realizing President Bola Tinubu’s vision for a renewed and highly effective Nigeria Police Force, given the challenges the force currently faces.
