Hours after President Bola Tinubu unveiled a portrait of himself to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Democracy, Nigerians have kicked, saying Democracy Day isn’t about Tinubu.
The portrait is said to be the world’s largest painting portrait on a canvas.
It was the work of 37 different painters representing the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
On X, Nigerians query the rational of having the painting of Tinubu to mark the June 12 Democracy Day celebration and not MKO Abiola whose stolen presidential mandate resulted in the commemoration of the day.
@enyola said: “Your symbol of democracy in Nigeria has been unveiled people! ITS THE LARGEST PORTRAIT PAINTING and No! It’s not Abiola or Mandela, it’s your boy BAT.”
@Mide52525 said: “Whoever suggested or brought the idea of using Tinubu’s face as the largest painting potriate on canvass does not mean well for Nigeria. If at all you must unveil something of such nature; it should be in commoration of those in the forefront of the fight of democracy!!”
@ChrisEjiofor7 said: “Congratulations to Nigeria. At least we made it on this list. Any Nigerian who sees this portrait will never be hungry again and their sufferings will vanish. With this portrait, we are on our way into an economic boom, it’s a sign of Hope.”
@MissPearls said: “You unveil the ‘World largest’ portrait on Democracy Day and it’s Tinubu’s picture. Not Abiola! Why will he not fall?”
@OdogwuGrandPa said: “So it was Tinubu on the portrait….He couldn’t even paint the portrait of Abiola, the reason we have democracy today..Tinubu always want all attention on himself.”
