Taraba: Jubilation As Sitting Gov. Loses Senatorial Bid To Opposition Party
Monday 27th February 2023 was a day full of joy and history in the history of politics of Taraba South as a sitting Governor from the zone lost his Senatorial bid under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Darius Ishaku lost the bid to his arch-rival of the major opposition party, the APC, Mr. David Jimkuta.
Declaring the results, the returning officer, Professor Solomon Adeyeye of the Federal University Wukari announced that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), David Jimkuta polled 85, 415 votes to defeat Governor Ishaku who scored 45, 708 votes.
Jimkuta who initially lost to Danjuma Shiddi during the Primaries for the Southern Senatorial seat reclaimed the bit as the APC candidate for the zone at the Court of Appeal which declared him as the rightful candidate of the APC a few weeks before the general elections.
On the contrary, Ishaku’s Deputy Governor, Engr. Haruna Manu clinched the election for Taraba Central Senatorial Seat.
Manu defeated two other contenders, Bashir Marafa Abba of the APC and Bobboi Bala Kaigama of the NNPP.
However, Senator Shu’aibu Isa Lau of the PDP and incumbent Minority leader in the Senate was returned for Taraba North Senatorial Zone for the second term.
He defeated Senator Sani Abubakar Danladi of the APC, a former Deputy and acting Governor of the State, and Aminu Liman of the NNPP as well as Jeremiah Jocob Kane of APGA.
