In a recent statement, Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, asserted that the recent Supreme Court ruling did not affirm the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; instead, it upheld the election’s unconstitutionality.
Baba-Ahmed made these remarks during an appearance on Arise News on Monday night, where he characterized the Supreme Court’s decision as an excessive display of power.
During the interview, Baba-Ahmed stated, “The Petition Court and the Supreme Court did not actually affirm the success of Tinubu’s presidency; they upheld the unconstitutionality of that election, and they are content with it remaining so. They possess the authority, and there is little recourse available. This is why we refer to it as an unreasonable show of force. If there were any viable action we could take, we would, but we are committed to abiding by the law.”
His comments followed a world press conference held by his principal, Peter Obi, who expressed concerns about the Supreme Court’s judgment, suggesting that it eroded citizens’ trust in the judicial system.
It’s worth noting that in October, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition brought by Peter Obi and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
