Speed Darlington Finally Granted Bail After One Month Behind Bars

Controversial Nigerian rapper, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has regained his freedom after nearly a month in police detention.

The 39-year-old was picked up on November 27, during a performance in Owerri, Imo State.

The arrest was linked to allegations of verbal abuse targeted at Afrofusion superstar, Damini Ogulu, famously called Burna Boy.

The drama unfolded after Speed Darlington mocked Burna Boy for his connection with embattled American rapper, Sean Combs, aka Diddy, who is currently embroiled in multiple legal battles involving accusations of sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

The taunts reportedly set the stage for the controversial rapper’s first arrest.

Darlington’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, revealed that Burna Boy had a hand in the rapper’s detention, stating, Despite the legal troubles, Darlington remained defiant, vowing to continue criticising the Grammy winner for his association with Diddy.

Adeyanju hinted at the possibility of his client being arraigned or released soon, saying, “Our FREP application for Speed Darlington a.k.a has been granted by the court. He is to be arraigned within 48 hours or released. Issues around injustice may take time, but justice will always prevail.”

A close pal of Speed Darlington would later reveal that he had been granted bail.

“Akpi has been granted bail by the court”, his post read, though further details were not disclosed.
