Tottenham Hotspur maintained their unbeaten pre-season run with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United in Seoul, marking Son Heung-min’s final appearance for the club.
The South Korean forward confirmed his departure earlier in the day, ending a decade-long spell in North London.
Son captained the side and was substituted in the 65th minute to a standing ovation from the 65,000-strong crowd at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. Reports indicate he is set to join Los Angeles FC ahead of the Major League Soccer transfer deadline.
Spurs took an early lead through Brennan Johnson, who slotted home from the edge of the box after collecting Kevin Danso’s third-minute pass.
Newcastle responded before half-time as Harvey Barnes finished a fluid team move, beating Antonin Kinsky at his near post.
The match lacked intensity in the second half, with only one shot on target, a tame effort from Lucas Bergvall, registered between the two sides.
Bruno Guimarães emerged as the standout performer and, though Kieran Trippier matched the Brazilian’s influence in the final third, neither side could break the deadlock after Barnes’ equaliser.
Tottenham’s attacking play was subdued, with Son’s emotional exit overshadowing an otherwise uneventful friendly.
Son leaves Tottenham as a club legend, having made 454 appearances, scoring 173 goals and providing 96 assists.
His departure marks the end of an era for the Spurs, who now turn their attention to replacing his leadership and creativity ahead of the new English Premier League season.
The 33-year-old received a guard of honour from both teams as he left the pitch, cementing his status as one of the club’s greatest modern players.
With pre-season concluding, Tottenham will finalise their squad ahead of their opening league fixture, while Newcastle continue preparations under Eddie Howe.
Son’s move to LAFC is expected to be confirmed in the coming days, bringing a storied EPL career to a close.
