President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila has been reminded of how in the past he used social media to abuse the government of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
The reminder came on the heels of a call by Gbajabiamila that social media should be regulated because it was turning into a societal menace.
Gbajabiamila made the call while representing Tinubu at the public presentation of a book, “Nigerian Public Discourse: The Interplay of Empirical Evidence and Hyperbole” written by a former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, in Lagos.
“Social media has become a societal menace and must be regulated. As many people do not understand that once the send button is hit, there is a potential to reach millions of people around the world which is capable of causing a great danger not just in the society but even unintended consequences to the individuals that are receiving information which may include security of life,” Gbajabiamila was quoted to have said.
On X, formerly Twitter, netizens dug up 2014 posts of Gbajabiamila, the kind of posts he now considers unacceptable.
One of those posts reads: “Now if obtaining money from 520k people for 4.5k jobs isn’t 419 someone needs to tell me what is!! Vagabond in power and barbarians at the gate.”
Another post reads: “$1b loan after N3 trillion to Defence in 3 years. It’s evident the president and his advisers regard Nigerians as imbeciles (which they are not.”
