Slavia Prague breathed new life into their UEFA Europa League campaign with a convincing 2-0 triumph over Roma on Thursday evening. The Czech side orchestrated a comprehensive turnaround against the Italians, bouncing back from a 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture.
Playing at the Sinobo Stadium in Prague, the home side posed a constant threat throughout the first half and finally broke the deadlock just five minutes into the second half. Although Roma’s goalkeeper, Mile Svilar, made a commendable save to deny Lukas Masopust’s header, Mojmir Chytil kept the ball alive, allowing Vaclav Jurecka to bundle it home from close range.
Slavia’s second goal, coming in the 74th minute, was undeniably the highlight of the match. Masopust created space on the edge of the box, executed a precise touch, and then delivered a clinical finish into the bottom corner, eluding the grasp of Roma’s Mile Svilar.
The victory propels Jindrich Trpisovsky’s side to nine points, on par with Roma but ahead on goal difference. Both teams are now well-positioned to secure automatic qualification or a place in the knockout play-off round.
Following this performance, Slavia enters their remaining European fixtures with newfound confidence. Their dynamic counter-attacking play and efficient finishing proved too formidable for Jose Mourinho’s Roma.
