Supporters of the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, stormed the speaker’s Lodge at Joel Ogunnaike Street, GRA Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday morning.
The supporters, wearing several pro-Obasa vests and caps are in their numbers at the lodge in the area.
According to Punch Newspaper quoting sources, the supporters were planning a “heroic welcome” for the lawmaker who was recently impeached by a majority of lawmakers in the House.
Obasa was replaced by Mojisola Meranda, the former deputy speaker, who has presided over two sittings since Obasa’s removal, with the former speaker absent from the sittings.
The former Speaker was not in the country when he was impeached.
There is controversy over the choice of the Speaker’s Lodge at 47, Joel Ogunnaike Street, GRA Ikeja, as Obasa’s purported arrival point, given that he is no longer officially entitled to the residence.
“I didn’t expect that the lodge would be opened for them”, a resident was heard saying.
Armed security personnel, including the police, are presently in the area to prevent a breakdown of law and order, per Punch report.
As of the time of filing this report, Obasa is yet to be sighted.
