After failing to return to the Senate in 2019, popular Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani, would constantly deploy humour and wit in criticizing the Ills and misgivings of the administration of the immediate past president Muhammadu Buhari, Nasir El- Rufai led Kaduna government and other societal oppressors.
He has already started guiding the Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government in his unique way – pointing out their missteps and applauding the right moves.
This week, PoliticsNow will delve into the life of this renowned Kaduna politician, Shehu Sani on how he moved from being a serving senator to now returning to his old turf, which is activism.
But he does it in a unique way, using social media, deploying humour to make his blunt points.
Fortunes had changed for Mr Sani who was a serving Senator in Kaduna until 2019 when he lost his re-election bid while flying the flag of Peoples Redemption Party to Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress.
A gang-up between El-Rufai and other APC stalwarts ensured Sani was pushed out of APC in the first place. With PRP not having enough structures on the ground, it was easy for Uba Sani to unseat him.
Uba Sani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won the Kaduna Central Senate seat with 355,242 votes in the Feb. 23 2019 general elections.
At the time, Uba Sani was Adviser to Nasiru El-Rufai on Political matters.
Shehu Sani polled 70,613 votes.
Following his inability to return to the Nigerian Senate, Mr Sani has consistently been on the side of the people.
But even at the Senate, Shehu Sani was always blunt. He exposed the grass-cutting business of then SGF, David Babachir Lawal.
He revealed the wages of lawmakers, placing it between N13 million. He constantly criticized the government and called out its failed policies and misgivings.
Shehu Sani (born October 29, 1967) is a Nigerian senator, critic, author, playwright and human rights activist. He is the President of the Civil Rights Congress of Nigeria (CRCN).
He is the Chairman of Hand-in-Hand, Africa. He contested and won the Kaduna Central Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressive Congress on March 28, 2015.
However, his political career hit the rock after he dumped the ruling party to join an opposition party.
