In the primary that Ighodalo emerged the winner, he defeated about nine other candidates including the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.
He polled a total of 577 votes to become the candidate of the PDP in the September 21 governorship election.
Declaring the results of the election held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Thursday, Lawal said Ighodalo polled 577 votes to defeat other aspirants in the race.
Earlier, two aspirants, Barr Omosede Igbinedion and Hon. Ogbeide Ihama, withdrew from the contest before voting by the delegates started.

Born July 19, 1959, Ighodalo, a lawyer and businessman, hails from Okaigben, in Ewohimi, Esan South East LG, Edo State.
