A petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio has been signed by over 10,000 people urging the lawmaker representing Akwa Ibom North-West to step down to allow for fair probe into allegation that he sexually harassed his colleague, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
The Senate has already handed Natasha a six-month suspension following altercation with the Senate President over seat allocation.
She claimed that he was victimizing her by swapping her seat to the back row where it would be convenient for him to ignore her hand if she waved it to speak.
The petition, which was opened by a group, Purple Women Foundation, has already garnered over 10,000 signatories in less than 48 hours after it was started.
The preamble to the petition reads: “We, the Purple Women Foundation, demand that Senate President Godswill Akpabio STEP DOWN immediately to allow for a fair and unbiased investigation into the sexual harassment allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan!”
The petitioners also demand for a transparent and impartial investigation, Justice and accountability for survivors of sexual harassment.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also advised the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio to submit himself for probe over the allegation made against him by Natasha.
