The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has asked the President Bola Tinubu-led government to immediately withdraw the new repressive social media regulation bill that was reportedly sent to the Nigerian National Assembly.
Making this call in a tweet via its official X account, SERAP argued that freedom of expression was a fundamental right.
The organization warned that it will take legal action against the Mr Tinubu-led government should it fail to withdraw the bill targeted at regulating social media.
“The Tinubu administration must immediately withdraw the new repressive social media regulation bill reportedly sent to the National Assembly. Freedom of expression is a fundamental right. We’ll take legal action if this bill is not immediately withdrawn.”
PoliticsNow recalls that the previous administration attempted to introduce a social media regulation bill in 2019. A development that was heavily kicked against by Nigerians
