Two minors, Imaran Hassan, 11, and Nura Jibrin, 10, have reportedly sustained bullet wounds following a violent clash involving students of Annur Islamic Model School in Chaichainiya and some youths near Zuma Bread Bakery in Suleja, Niger State.
The clashed which occurred on Thursday night reportedly stemmed from a dispute over a girl.
“After Tarawih prayers, what started as a dispute over a girlfriend turned into a serious fight around 9:30 p.m.,” a source who requested anonymity said.
The source added that Umar Idris, an SS3 student, led his colleagues to the area, armed with weapons, and engaged in the violent confrontation.
During the clash, Hassan and Jibrin were hit by bullets in their thighs, though the shots reportedly came from unknown directions.
Policemen and vigilantes were later mobilised to restore order and evacuate the injured minors to Suleja General Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
“Six suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack, while police and school officials are working closely to apprehend other students involved,” the source added.
The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the incident stated that 11 suspects were arrested in Chaichainiya, along Kaduna Road.
“On 6/3/2025 at about 11pm, reports were received that youths and some secondary students were fighting at Chaichainiya area of Kaduna road over issues of lovers by one Umar Idris of the same area,” the PPRO said.
“It was reported that during the incident, gunshots were heard from different directions which hit two victims on their laps; one Nura and Imrana, both 10 and 11 years, respectively,”
Abiodun further disclosed that during a covert police operation, 11 suspects, including Umar Idris, were arrested and are currently under investigation.
He added that findings revealed an officer of a sister security agency was responsible for the shooting that injured the two minors.
“Meanwhile, investigation is being intensified for further necessary action, and further development will be made known to the public.”
