Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the ongoing Kogi governorship election, Murtala Ajaka, has voted amidst cheers from his supporters.
The Kogi election appears to be taking ethnic slant with the three major candidates representing the three major ethnic groups in the state. Ajaka is from the Igala ethnic stock. Dino Melaye, candidate of the PDP is Okun while Usman Ododo of the APC is Ebira.
After voting, Ajaka towed the path of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who after voting, displayed his thumb printed ballot paper to show how he voted. The Electoral Act forbids such an action.
Ajaka also alleged that reports he was getting from his agents in Okene Okehi and Adavi indicated that most of the polling units had no result sheets. The three local governments are all Ebira speaking communities who are likely to vote Ododo, their kinsman.
Ajaka said: “Our agents have not seen the original result sheets from Okene, Okehi and Adavi. There’s no way we will go into election and the original result sheets are missing in Okene, Okehi and Adavi. Everything about the election is perfect. But the returning officers of those three local governments should be questioned.”
