Sancho seals dramatic Dortmund loan return after Man Utd exile

Jadon Sancho has completed a dramatic transfer deadline day return to Borussia Dortmund, joining the Bundesliga side on loan from Manchester United until the end of the 2023/2024 season. The 23-year-old winger returns to Dortmund just two and a half years after leaving to join United in a £73 million deal.

However, Sancho’s time at Old Trafford turned sour this season after a falling out with manager Erik ten Hag led to his exclusion from the first-team squad. He has not played competitively since September. Dortmund have now offered Sancho an escape route and a chance to revive his career where it first took off from 2017-2021.

“When I came into the dressing room today, it felt like coming home,” said an excited Sancho. “I know the club inside and out, I’ve always been very close with the fans here, and I’ve never lost contact with those in charge.” Dortmund will hope he can rediscover the form that saw him score 50 goals in 137 matches during his previous spell.

Dortmund Sporting Director, Sebastian Kehl, said: “Jadon is an absolute difference-maker and I’m looking forward to seeing him back in black and yellow soon. Even though he hasn’t played any competitive games in the past few months, we are sure that he will quickly settle back in with us.”

Sancho now faces the challenge of hitting the ground running and proving to any suitors that he still retains the ability that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting talents. Dortmund will need him at his best as they seek to qualify for the 2024/2025 UEFA Champions League.
