It’s been quite a regular week in the Big Brother House lately, hasn’t it? The usual house tasks, games, fights, arguments, parties? Our housemates have been giving us back-to-back drama and reactions to these activities I have mentioned. But let me be honest, I would properly like to discuss some drama that has been taking place and some statements that have been made in the house, which rather picked up my interest, got me riled up in the most questionable way.
Now we are all aware that the goal of the Big Brother Naija house is to win the grand prize of 120 million naira and in order to do so, an individual contestant must do everything possible to remain in the Big Brother House and we, the audience must vote and decide which of the housemates is worthy enough to take home the grand prize. But what really got to me this past week were the events that took place after the party and here was where I knew our housemates were doing their best not just to stay in the game but to get their fellow housemates out, even if it meant the worst way possible that is, disqualification.
The only housemate who currently is hanging on a thread leading to this unfortunate scenario is Ilebaye, our Gen Z baddie who was given two strikes for violence and physical abuse. For some reason, Big Brother has now turned to Survival of the Fittest because it is now a game of ‘lessening the party’ and moving forward. The gentlemen of the house seem to be plotting against the ladies, planning to get them all out of the game so they can remain and according to Pere, sources say he believes Ilebaye would misbehave once more if she drinks heavily during the Thursday night pool party.
Ike had other plans of his own. Ilebaye and Ike had quite a disagreement and this lead to him taking each and every one of her clothings, down to her undergarments and private underwears, and littered them around the house, including the bathroom! This made Ilebaye burst into tears and later on, awarded Ike his first strike for provocation this season.
Another shocking scenario that took place that really stormed social media like X was the statement made by Seyi Awolowo in the presence of his male housemates Pere, Whitemoney and Soma. He said and I quote, “I have sons and my sons will f*** your daughters! They will run trains on your daughters!” which in all sense of reasoning is a very offensive and derogatory statement made to both children and women.
Why do I want to talk about this case? I do not want to sound biased or partial but being able to want to cause harm directly and indirectly to women in order to cause a rather negative emotional reaction from them should be jail worthy. Not that the issues were even in-depth or serious enough to warrant pouring of someone’s clothing on the ground to watch the poor lady flare up in an angry outburst. Then primarily making a rather derogatory statement that not only speaks poorly how he views women as sexual gratifying objects, but his own desire to groom his little sons into continuing what we as a society are trying to hinder.
These aren’t just ordinary people staying in a house on reality television, these are future brand ambassadors, business owners, family owners and celebrities. Image should be the number one thing to protect as a person of such calibre. I understand the term of being human and letting our emotions get the best of us due to conflicts, but not as far as using derogatory terms like ‘run trains’ carelessly, and littering female delicate, private wears on the floors to seek vengeance shows more of irresponsible behaviour. In other words, it was very embarrassing and appalling to watch and I was rather DISAPPOINTED!
It’s fine that there’s drama happening in the house for entertainment purposes, but actions such as bullying, ill maltreatment and use of derogatory terms against women and children should have higher consequences instead of a private meeting in the diary room leading to an assembly in the main, begging for an insincere apology! DO BETTER!
