A riot has exploded in the volatile Plateau State with armed men looting and burning homes of neighbors who are of different religious beliefs.
According to media reports, both Christian and Muslim youths are ruling the Mangu area with violence following an alleged attack by suspected bandits in the community.
According to an online news medium, Sahara Reporters, a Church of Christ In Nations (COCIN) was set ablaze during the violent encounter.
The news medium quoted a resident of the area who alleged that suspected herdsmen provoked the crisis. “As we speak the COCIN Church near Sabon Kasuwa is on fire and they are advancing towards other churches in town.”
Plateau has been the headquarters of religious related violence in Nigeria.
On the eve of 2023 Christmas, over 200 people were reportedly killed by unknown assailants who attacked a predominantly Christian community in Plateau. The attack gained international headlines and condemnations.
