Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has advised his supporters in the UK who are eligible to vote in that election to vote for the Labour Party.
The British Labour Party led by Keir Starmer is leading in major polls ahead of the Conservative of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
On his X handle, Obi said, “Vote Labour on Thursday 4 July.”
He added: “Change will only happen if you vote for it.”
Obi’s campaign for the British Labour Party may be a payback to the hasty congratulations sent by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to Bola Ahmed Tinubu immediately after Nigeria’s election results were declared.
Sunak’s congratulatory message gave the election international legitimacy amid a huge controversy in results collation via an electronic portal Irev which refused to work in what has been famously termed ‘the glitch.’
On March 1 2023, the day Tinubu was declared winner, Sunak said on X handle, “The UK-Nigeria relationship remains strong. I look forward to working together to grow our security and trade ties, opening up opportunities for businesses and creating prosperity in both our countries.”
