Real Madrid earned a 2-0 victory against Sevilla at Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium, overcoming stubborn resistance from the home side who finished the match with nine players. The win comes just three days after Barcelona claimed the 2024/2025 La Liga title, leaving Madrid to play out their remaining fixtures with sheer professional determination.
Sevilla faced an uphill battle from the 12th minute when defender Loïc Badé received a red card for pulling down Kylian Mbappé who was through on goal. Despite the numerical advantage, Madrid struggled to break through in the first half, with Mbappé missing a golden opportunity in the 43rd minute after being played through by Luka Modrić.
The home team’s situation worsened three minutes into the second half when Isaac Romero was shown a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Aurélien Tchouaméni, reducing Sevilla to nine men. Nevertheless, Carlo Ancelotti’s side found it difficult to capitalise on their two-man advantage for much of the second period.
Mbappé finally broke the deadlock in the 75th minute with a long-range effort that beat goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland. The goal marked his 29th in La Liga and 41st across all competitions this season, putting the French forward in prime position to win the Pichichi Trophy in his first season with the club.
Jude Bellingham added a second goal in the 87th minute to confirm the result for Madrid. The 2-0 scoreline reflected a hard-fought match that proved more challenging than expected for the visitors, who will be satisfied with collecting three points from their final away fixture of the 2024/2025 campaign.
