First Lady Remi Tinubu, wife of Nigeria’s president Bola Tinubu, has denied that she gave directive for the closure of Aso Villa chapel.
Making clarifications against allegations that she ordered the closure of the chapel for some political reasons, the first lady, in a statement released by her media aide Busola Kukoyi on Twitter, said reports making the rounds were totally false.
The first lady explained that President Tinubu was yet to appoint a Chaplain for the church after the exit of the last chaplain.
“We wish to state categorically that this is a fabrication and totally false representation of the true situation, as the First Lady at no time gave such a directive that the Chapel be shut and the keys handed over to Her Excellency. Presently there are weekly fellowships going on at the Chapel. However, Mr President is yet to appoint a Chaplain for the chapel after the exit of the last Chaplain, as he only reserves the right to appoint a Chaplain for the Chapel,” the statement read.
Nigerians have reacted to the controversy, wondering how a Muslim will appoint a chaplain for the Villa Chapel.
@henryrich03 did: “A Muslim president will appoint a chaplain for the chapel. Cook another lie. Was service held there on Sunday or not?”
@ACEjealor also said: “A muslim to appoint a chaplain… Wonders shall never end.”
@NewRay89003136 added: “Why will a Muslim president appoint a Chaplain? Don’t they have a body regulating the chapel? Is like you will be worse than Lie lie Mohammed.”
But @ Seunjoshua replied: “So, who will appoint a Chaplain, a Christian former President or the General Overseer of your church?”
