One of the 45 ministers cleared by the Senate, Bosun Tijani, has been appointed as a visiting professor at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.
He tweeted on Friday quoting his appointment letter: “The committee approved your application as Visiting Adjunct Professor: Wits School of Governance, University of the Witwatersrand, with effect from 1 September 2023 for a period of 3 years until 31 August 2026.”
Bosun faced a difficult challenge in his ministerial screening following his previous tweets against Senators, the Nigerian government and even Tinubu. Those tweets became the basis for his screening.
Senator Abdulfatai Buhari representing Oyo North Senatorial District tackled Bosun during the ministerial screening about his controversial tweets.
The lawmaker said: “On the 21st of July 2019, Dr Bosun tweeted against Nigeria that he does not appreciate the Nigerian passport and Nigeria as a nation.”
But Bosun, who apologized, said he made the tweet as a result of a frustrating experience he had with the Chinese Embassy.
He was later cleared and confirmed as a minister.
But after tweeting about his appointment in a South African university, Nigerians have begun to wonder whether he would reject Tinubu’s appointment.
@DotunOne said, “Congratulations. You’re not thinking of ditching the ministerial appointment, are you?”
@AlfredEbiJames said: “It’s like you tweet without thinking things through. Why tweet this when you’ve already stood before the Nigerian people on the floor of the senate for a job. To what end? You’ve already told us that you’ve put your biz on hold, which we appreciate. Abi, this one no follow?”
@adetuwo_suji said: “If at this point he is still busy trying to tell people that he has options somewhere else, it means he has not learnt his lessons. If you want to serve, serve, if otherwise leave.”
@YojuKunle said: “Congratulations to you, I hope this is not to brag that you got life better than minister? Cos you yourself know that if given Communication and Digital economy, you will employ many prof in different agencies who will do sir for you.”
