Arsenal fired another huge statement of intent in their English Premier League title pursuit, demolishing relegation-threatened Sheffield United 6-0, at Bramall Lane, on Monday. The ruthless Gunners, became the first top-flight side to win three consecutive away games by a five-goal margin or more this season.
The visitors wasted no time in asserting their dominance, as Martin Odegaard opened the scoring from close range after just five minutes.
The floodgates then burst open, with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli netting inside the first 15 minutes to make it 3-0. Kai Havertz and Declan Rice added further goals before half-time in a first-half onslaught.
Despite leading 5-0 at the break, Arsenal showed no signs of letting up. Martinelli continued tormenting the beleaguered Sheffield United defence, with his mazy dribbling leading to Ben White’s thunderbolt strike for the sixth goal around the hour mark. The Gunners then took their foot off the gas but emphatically underlined their credentials.
The result leaves Arsenal one point behind second-place Manchester City and two points away from league leaders, Liverpool, in this gripping title race. In contrast, Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United are marooned in the relegation zone, nine points adrift of safety with 11 games remaining.
Mikel Arteta’s rampant side have now scored an astonishing 21 goals in their last four league outings. Their frightening form suggests the EPL climax will go down to the wire, with Arsenal in real contention for the title.
